Ticketmaster will be giving partial refunds to customers who purchased tickets for The Cure’s upcoming tour following a showdown with the band’s frontperson Robert Smith earlier this week. Smith called additional charges, being levied upon customers “unduly high”. Some cases documented via screenshots on Twitter saw ticket holders pay more in fees than the cost of their seat.
Tweets from Smith on Thursday stated that fans who bought the lowest-priced seats for his band’s North American tour will get a refund of $10 per ticket, while others will get $5.
The Cure had previously taken measures to prevent buyers from facing exorbitant charges for tickets, including declining to use platinum or dynamic pricing and making tickets non-transferable to limit skyrocketing prices on the secondary market.
