Matty Matheson may be best known today as a chef, internet personality, and actor/producer on The Bear, but in his teenage years, he was part of Ontario’s post-hardcore scene, playing alongside bands like Alexisonfire and Attack In Black. Now, he’s returning to those roots with a new hardcore band, Pig Pen. The lineup features Alexisonfire’s Wade MacNeil, Attack In Black’s Daniel and Ian Romano (the latter now a successful country artist), and Tommy Major, who also plays in Daniel Romano’s Outfit, Young Guv’s live band, and more.

Matheson introduced the project on Instagram, writing, “A FEW OLD FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WROTE AND RECORDED 10 SONGS OVER 2 DAYS. WE JUST WANTED TO HANGOUT AND SEE WHAT’S UP. THIS IS OUR BAND. WE ARE PIGPEN.”

While Pig Pen hasn’t released any music yet, fans can preview a song in a recent post announcing their debut show. The band will perform at Toronto’s Sneaky Dee’s on Friday, April 25, alongside Best Wishes and Pluto’s Kiss. Tickets are currently sold out, but a waitlist is available.
