Bleachers Release New Album ‘Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night’

Jack Antonoff has shared his first new album as Bleachers in four years, Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night. The album serves as the follow-up to 2017’s Gone Now. The record features some pretty big names like Lana Del Rey and Bruce Springsteen.

Bleachers take on a more orchestral sound on this album. Moving away from the ’80s-inspired sounds of his previous releases, Antonoff leans in to a baroque-pop sound. Despite entering a new sonic territory, he’s still able to maintain his infectious, synth-driven hooks throughout the tracks.

The Springsteen collab, “chinatown,” is definitely a standout on the album. Upon its release, Antonoff explained of the track:

“‘Chinatown’ starts in NYC and travels to New Jersey. That pull back to the place I am from mixed with terror of falling in love again. Having to show your cards to someone and the shock when you see them for yourself. Thinking you know yourself and where you arm from… Having to see yourself through somebody who you want to stay… I started to write this song with these in my head.”
