The 2022 Grammy Awards have officially been postponed due to COVID-19.
For the second year in a row, the annual awards show has been pushed back indefinitely. According to Variety, a spokesperson for the Recording Academy confirmed the delay, but they’ve yet to agree on a new date.
The 2022 Grammy Awards were initially set to take place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena (fka Staples Center) on January 31st.
That ceremony has been postponed as cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surging. Many concerts, tours, and sporting events have been postponed and cancelled due to the Omicron surge.
Variety says that enough artists and music industry figures have expressed reluctance about taking part in the 2022 Grammy Awards. As a result, the Academy decided it would be better to hold the show later on in 2022.
Sources said that the Academy and its broadcaster CBS are hoping to put on a full show, including a live audience, unlike last year’s scaled-down event.
Grammys Week events will also likely be postponed until the week of the new date.
Currently, Trevor Noah is still set to host the 2022 Grammy Awards, making it the second year in a row that he’s hosted.
Back in November, the nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards were announced. This year’s Album Of The Year is definitely a standout category, with more individual nominees than ever before. Because of a rule change, all songwriters, producers, recording engineers, mixers, mastering engineers, and all featured artists are eligible for a nomination.
